Freelance Copywriting

Toward the middle of 2019, Michael began supplementing his income with freelance copywriting. He has written copy for personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan, business guru Renae Christine, and A/V blog The Home Theater DIY. He also did freelance work for the New Hampshire marketing firm Millennium Agency.

Journalism

He has been published in ThinkProgress, Truthout, Jewish Currents, Waging Nonviolence, and elsewhere. He has covered labor politics and the far right and even had one of his pieces translated into German.

Education

Michael’s background in economics makes him a strong writer, researcher, and mathematician. With education in history and philosophy, Michael takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding political economy.

New School for Social Research

Michael received an M.Phil. in economics from The New School for Social Research in 2018, having completed all coursework and qualifying exams requisite for a PhD. During his time there, he assumed the role of blog editor of the graduate student-run journal The New School Economic Review. He also took courses in historiography and historical methodology.

Howard University

In 2013, Michael received an M.A. in economics from Howard University with a concentration in monetary and fiscal economics. During his time there, he was a research associate at the Center for Urban Progress and an adjunct professor for undergraduate students. He taught classes in macroeconomics, statistics, and microeconomics.

University of Mary Washington

Michael graduated with a double B.S. in economics and philosophy in 2010 from the University of Mary Washington. During his time there, he was active in student life, becoming a student senator and leading a public art collective. Among his accomplishments is negotiating with various administrative offices to arrange for a 5-hour, 2-stage benefit concert and comedy show with no budget.

Research Interests

Michael has been researching fascism and the far right since 2011. He is currently working on a book about the only nazi labor union to exist in the United States. Despite this organization appearing to have been involved in nearly every form of racial unrest in Detroit in the 1930s and 40s, there has been no historical research done on them. For this project, Michael has been trawling the archives, scouring contemporary books, and searching periodicals for bits and pieces of the history of this obscure group.
